Blogging - The test of time.
I've written quite a few posts on blogging now, ranging from design to statistics. This installment is in response to some rather surprising blogging facts I came across in the past few days.
1) A new blog is created every half a second
2) 95% of bloggers give up
This caused me to really think about the reason so many bloggers simply stop posting and call it a day, was it lack of traffic? Lack of ideas? Neither. They were just impatient.
Patience really is a virtue, and i'll explain why in a minute, but first take a look at the photo below. It makes the point perfectly, and should really motivate you to keep blogging.

When you're blog is getting very little traffic, its very easy to lose motivation and give up. What this picture illustrates is that when blogging, you're sort of like an actor/singer. You keep trying until you get that big break, and then it starts to become a lot more enjoyable. The above image should be stuck on every bloggers wall. If you ever think that you should give up, take a look at it and think about how much you'd regret not knowing if the next day would be that 'big break'.
Think about it another way if you will. If 175,000 blogs are created every day, but 166,250 (95%) give up, then just by posting for one day, you've beaten all those quitters. Keep this up for a whole year and you'll have out-stayed over 60 million bloggers. Not bad!
Hopefully you've got the idea by now by I'd like to wrap things up with a little challenge. If you can find me a blog that has been active for more than 5 years, that hasn't got lots of traffic (more than 5,000 a day) well I'll, find something to give you, because I genuinely don't think one exists.
Now you could of course argue that they don't exist because nobody in their right mind will keep blogging for 5 years if they weren't getting good enough traffic to create an incentive, but I think that they don't exist because the more you post, the more of a following you will build up. If you're reading this and you're a blogger, you've most likely read articles on how to gain lots of traffic overnight, well it can't be done. At the end of the day, no 'traffic boosting' solution will work if you don't commit to it and put in the time. If you keep blogging, you WILL be successful.
Agree or disagree? That's cool! Post a little comment below!
