5 common blogging mistakes you're probably making
The latest instalment of the blogging tips series is here. As per usual, you can easily find any of my other blogging posts by using the search bar in the top right corner of the page. The subject of this post is the blogging mistakes that nearly everyone makes, and more importantly how to solve them. According to the blogging gurus, I have about 1 minute of your time before you lose interest, so I better crack on!
5) Not posting enough
This seems very obvious for most people, but it's interesting to see just how few bloggers actually manage to get their posting frequency right. The logic is rather simple, nobody wants to look at a blog that isn't being constantly updated, because there is nothing in it for them. You have to give readers the content they want, when they want it. How often you post will depend largely on your topic and target audience, but I suggest at least daily. A little tip here is to never fall into a routine, as soon as you do so, the whole process becomes a chore, and your blog won't last long. Blog as often as you have something worth sharing.
4) Posting too much
This problem is far more common. In the early days many bloggers basically spam their blog with content, often resulting in low quality content that simply overhauls your readers and causes them to lose interest. Also, posting so often is very hard to keep up with, so it often causes post frequency to rapidly decrease after a couple if weeks, which never looks good. The tip here is to start posting less frequently and work up, than to style posting more frequently and work down.
3) Monetizing too soon
So many people think blogging is as simple as writing a few posts, throwing on Google Adsense and becoming a millionaire overnight. Nothing screams 'unprofessional' than a page in which 70% is covered with ads claiming to 'get ripped in 6 weeks'. Think about what message it sends to your readers, if they think you care about the money more than them, why should they care about you? It's much better to wait until you have a lot of traffic before monetizing.
2) Not having goals
As cliche as it sounds, you need to set goals and targets in order to stay motivated and give your blog a direction to go in. If you're just aimlessly posting for the sake of it, readers will start to notice, and the effects aren't great. Goals can be anything you chose, from monthly pageviews to number of comments received, any goal can help drive your blog in the right direction.
1) Losing patience
Most bloggers give up within the first few months. To succeed as a blogger you simply can't afford to do this. Most blogs that are making good revenue have been around for a matter of years! Although it may seem tough at times, think about the potential rewards and keep motivated. It will pay off! If you do ever feel like giving up, just try a post on something completely different to keep your mind fresh with ideas.
So, avoid these simple mistakes and you will succeed! Have I been useful? Comment below!
