5 things Temple Run has taught me about business.
If you've been keeping up with my latest articles, you'll know the talk of the town is Tablet Gaming. Following on from this 'theme' I'm going to share you the 5 key ideas that temple run has taught me about business/life in general. This might sound like quite a bizarre connection but read on!
It's all very well just passing time and going for a high score straight away, but realistically it's not going to happen. By focussing on goals and targets you can stay motivated, build up experience, and you will also be rewarded upon completion. This is true about life/business. You have to set goals and targets (as cliché as it sounds) in order to measure your success. It just works.
So there is my little list. I hope you can at least see some sort of relevance in what I'm saying. Got any opinion? Leave your comments below!
5) Focus on completing goals

4) Save your coins
Spending money is obviously a massive part of business. A part where everything can fall apart if you're not careful. When it comes to financial planning you have to think of the medium term. There's no point in spending 2500 coins on a head-start because it's only useful in the short term, and even then it can be wasted. There's also no point in saving up until you have 1,000,000 coins because that's going to make things very difficult in the process. What you have to do it save some money to buy things later on, but also have some available for short term boosts. Simple.3) Be competitive
Despite what people say, not many people want to get a high score on Temple Run for the pride it brings them. They want it so they can brag to their friends and claim some sort of 1 up on them. This got me thinking that so often it's difficult to find motivation for a task when all it brings is personal gain. It's much easier to look at your friends achievements and set out to beat them. Similar to the goals I talked about earlier, it really helps to stay focussed and motivated.
2) Take Breaks
My frequent wrist cramps tell me that sometimes it's best to take a break, get it of your mind and come back later to pick up where you left of. Countless times I've tried to ease my wrists and thumbs back into motion whilst playing, only to result in inevitable failure. Sometimes a simple 'pause' won't suffice. Leave the whole game for an hour and come back to it. With a fresh approach to the game and a new found focus it'll be much easier to continue. This is true for so many business scenarios. If a particular problem seems 'unsolvable' it's very helpful to just drop it for a bit and come back later.
1) Patience
Don't expect overnight success because chances are it just won't happen. However tempted you are to delete the App and remove all evidence that you ever tried, don't do it. Even if you only play every few days or even every week, you will become better with time and practice. It's so easy to give up straight away because we feel we have 'failed' but ultimately, (thinking back to the medium term) we are better off.
Patience really is a virtue.
