Is this the future?
I often wonder what will happen to 'normal' things in the future. It's easy to predict what phones, televisions and computers will be like but what about the more ordinary pieces of technology. Things like traffic lights.
I realise 'Traffic light concept art' is never going to be the most successful niche, but I just happened to stumble across something I thought was rather good.

This is the Hourglass Traffic Light system. It works by using LED's to create an hourglass effect, giving both pedestrians and motorists the knowledge of how long they have before the signal changes.
Despite the impressive design, it is really something that could ever happen?
Some say that knowing how long they have left to cross the road makes things safer, which seems to make sense. The only problem is that if drivers know how long they have, they may consider it a little 'challenge' to go full speed and try and make it through the lights in the 3 seconds remaining. This could actually lead to people speeding a lot more frequently and before you know it we're all dead.
There is of course the problem of cost. The global recession is most likely going to push 'changing the traffic light system' quite far down on the to do list, meaning that we probably won't be around to see it anyway.
Got any other 'Traffic Light concept art'? (I realise it's a bit of a long shot) Post comments below!
