5 simple things America has ruined
Some would say that the relationship between Brits and Americans is a good one. There aren't any serious rivalries or problems. However, we Brits do get quite annoyed sometimes. Mainly because of the things that America has just ruined. Here's the top 5:
5) Health
I'm not saying that the NHS is the best healthcare in the world, far from it, but for health care to be private and require health insurance is just stupid. How many horror stories you hear about people who's health insurance hasn't paid out and for whatever reason and they are left will bills they have no chance of paying? Too many. The system really is fundamentally flawed, not to mention regressive (Meaning the poorer people suffer a lot more than the richer people). The system has seen some changes with 'Obama Care' but still it's got nothing on the NHS.
4) Chocolate
Now English chocolate isn't amazing, but we have definitely learnt a few things from countries like Belgium and Germany. America on the other hand decide that chocolate just isn't good enough unless you fill it with nuts and what seems like random flavourings. Even worse, the American company Kraft Foods, bought Cadburys a while back and just made it expensive and made the bars smaller. If there was one thing we didn't expect them to do to chocolate bars it was make them smaller.
3) Smiling
In good 'ol England, it's quite easy to work out how people are feeling. The general rule seems to be that when somebody is happy, they smile.
"But that's so simple, Americans can't have ruined that!"
I'm afraid they have. Considering the fact that almost every American seems to smile on a constant basis, how do you know if they mean it? I doubt that shop assistant is always ecstatic to see you, and I'm sure that stranger in the street isn't always in a brilliant mood.
2) Comedy
With their almost impressive lack of subtlety, American versions of British comedies have been absolutely disastrous. The American inbetweeners is the classic example, comprising of some of the worst casting I have ever seen on TV. If you're not sure just how bad the problem is, have you every heard of the US I.T crowd? Or the US Vicar of Dibley? Well, there's a reason for that.
1) Spelling
As I sit here typing this I might as well take a knife to the 'u' button on my keyboard, because for some reason Americans just consider it unnecessary. The fact of the matter is that 'Color' and 'Humor' just don't look right, and getting rid of one letter is just pointless.
Of course it's not just the absence of the letter 'u' that annoys me, but the overuse of the letter 'z' (pronounced 'zee' of course)
Why the letter S is not good enough I will never know.
So just before I end I would like to say that I don't actually have any personal vendetta against the whole of America, it's just those 5 little things that annoy us Brits. What I am keen to know is what we Brits do that annoy you? Post comments below!
