Do we really need a degree to be a millionaire?
Or any qualifications for that matter. Unless you have been living in a cave for the last 5 years, you'll have heard that university fees have gone up, unemployment has gone up, and you're basically screwed if you don't have experience and a degree. That's all true to some extent, but lets look at some guys that managed to do without higher education:
Lord Alan Sugar
Mark Zuckerburg
Now for any one of these guys to make it would be considered a fluke, but all 5? Clearly there is some ability and mindset that is what actually makes you succeed.
Just to quickly cover myself from the "yeah but that was ages ago, it's much harder to be a billionaire now" comments, you're wrong. Alan Sugar and many other entrepeuneurs have said that with social networks and the Internet, it's so much easier in today's time. Now of course they could just be saying that in an attempt to glorify their own merit, but when you're a billionaire, I don't think that's all that necessary.
So if higher education won't get you the billionaire status, what will? Well, it's all about the mindset. Determination, business acqumin, the ability to take risks, and of course a little bit of luck to hold it all together.
So should everybody stop applying for university and try and make it themselves? No. The 5 guys above may have managed it, but there will be thousands more who haven't. Also, how are you supposed to know if you have the mindset to make it big? You're not. To be quite honest, the odds are completely against you, but give it a try and maybe one day in about 50 years you'll be featured in a post similar to this one....
