These collectible magazines are getting desperate.
It seems to have become a yearly tradition, Christmas is quickly replaced by the depression that January has offer and everyone is feeling a bit down.
Luckily for us, the magazine people are there to save the day, with issue after issue of some stupid magazine in which you have to collect something or build something.
I'll be honest, when I was younger, Horrible Histories and Horrible Science would be the highlight of my week, but firstly, that was pretty cheap, and secondly, I was a kid, Ice cream would have made my week.
Now though this rather shallow market seems to have opened up to the middle aged man, with pocket watch collections, to building your own army tank, or your own ship...
This is what has annoyed me. To start with, the actual Sovereign of the Seas warship, took only 22 months to build, but to build a replica by collecting all 135 issues? Well naturally that will take 2 years and 7 months.
But you're forgetting! Building you're own model must be so much cheaper? Well, no. The total cost of the 'project' sits at around £804!!!
Now, you're probably thinking that this photo is a picture of the finished product right? Again, no. The photo on the left shows a model of the same warship, but this one costs just £74.50!
Admittedly the scale is a tad smaller but for a saving of £730, I wouldn't mind.
What I'm saying is that when you look at the figures, the fact it takes so long to make, the fact that is costs so much more than a ready made replica, must mean that there really is no point to them! But still every January we see some stupid model or rare antique that needs to be collected. Just save your time and money.
Now if you are adamant to go out and give up your money and time for some 'rare' collectable, then at least do it right, buy something like this:
