Google's driverless car - Should we care?

So the driveless care is fast approaching, but why has it caused such panic?

This project, which will add to Google's dominance of...everything, could end up costing the U.S. trillions of dollars. This isn't because the car is crazily expensive to make, but simply that's the amount of revenue that companies all over America could lose. The car could have a massive effect on a range of businesses, from auto insurers to personal injury lawyers, the knock on effect of this breakthrough is huge.

So obviously this is something we should care about right?

Well, not really. Driverless cars have been the project of many car companies way before Google gave it a go. Volvo even tested one of their driverless cars at 50mph on a European highway. BMW has also tried it out, and before 2020, we should see a few of these cars in the market.

Revenue will still be lost, but it can be avoided. Businesses have to be able to adapt to new technology, it's survival of the fittest.
So if the U.S. lose billions of dollars in revenue, it's those businesses fault, not Google's.
